The Cycling UK email system is broken
The Cycling UK email system that I use to send out Newsletters, Welcome emails and information about events and holidays is no longer being updated with new members.
When you joined Cycling UK, or the CTC as it used to be, you were allocated to a local group, based on your postcode. The South Bucks Midweek area stretches from Aylesbury to Gerards Cross and Marlow, including postcodes HP1 to HP27 and SL0 to SL9.
The email system that I use, is Cycling UK’s email list of all the members in our postcode area, until now. Cycling UK have created a new website and with it a new membership database to which only they have access. The old email list still exists for now, but new members are not being added to it and any email address changes notified to Cycling UK are not being updated.
To my mind, communication is vital to building and maintaining a member group, so I find it disappointing that Cycling UK has cut us off from new members in this way.
Newsletters and event information will therefore only reach a decreasing number of existing members, who don't change their email address. I think this is unacceptable and if you agree, I suggest that you write to Cycling UK and make your feelings known.
Our Christmas Lunch attracted a good crowd
Our Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 10th December at Chartridge Park Golf Club attracted a good crowd with 49 diners. The weather was good for those riding to lunch, without the ice of some previous years. It was good to see Brett Matthews who had driven down the day before from Kendal, staying with local friends and joining a ride from Wendover. Peter Southworth came up from Alton to see his old cycling buddies.
The quality of the food and service by Chartridge Park's caterers was very good and excellent value for money. The bar was open from 12:00 for drinks to lubricate the conversation and lunch was served promptly at 13:00.

South East Aylesbury Link Road
Part of the new South East Aylesbury LInk Road has now opened to replace the section of the A4010 between Stoke Mandeville and Terrick which is now permanently severed near The Goat Farm. It runs from a new roundabout on Lower Road, Stoke Mandeville in a loop rejoining the A4010, Risborough Road near the Freemantle Court Care Home. It seems a big loop and rather bleak and windy like the Martin Dalby Way on the other side of Aylesbury, but it does have a cycle path and a nice new surface.

Like them or loath them, it is interesting to see a major civil engineering project unfold and this video shows progress towards the next phase linking the A413 Wendover Road, Aylesbury to Lower Road, Stoke Mandeville.
Salisbury Holiday update
Those of you who have registered your interest in this five night holiday in Salisbury from 17th to 22nd May 2026 should have received an automatic acknowledgement. If you haven't seen it, it may be in your Junk/Spam folder.
We have reached capacity now, but the holiday is some way off, so places may become available. If you wish to express an interest and join the waiting list here is the booking form.

Thanks to David Winterburn for alerting me to a new cafe in Prestwood, visited by the Aylesbury and Chiltern groups. It is called The Pantry at 51 and unsurprisingly it is at 51 High Street, Prestwood, HP16 9EJ.
