This newsletter goes to about 900 people and I hope some find it useful, so I was pleased to hear that a few people went to the "Evening with Sean Yates" at Cafe Belge in Beachampton, including Ed Adkins who knows everyone in cycling. I saw a nice picture of Ed with Sean Yates, but I can't find it now; too may channels of communication!

GPS and electronic route planning
I will be giving a talk on this subject at the Chiltern Hills Clubroom at Little Kingshill Baptist Church Hall on Thursday January 16th at 8.00 pm. I will try to answer any questions about route planning and editing, downloading routes to navigate using a cycling GPS device, sharing your routes or making use of other peoples. Many cycling holidays provide gpx files in advance. How do you go about route planning in completely unfamiliar territory? Can you get maps for other parts of the world? The screens on GPS devices are highly customisable; I like to have distance to destination and ETA for example. If you have sensors for heart rate, power etc, you can connect and display the data from them. If you have any questions or suggestions, or would like individual help, please contact me.
Cycling Weekend in France in sunny June
The Tour des Trois Vallées Cycling Weekend 28th to 29th June 2025.
Many of our members have taken part over the years so ask around to find companions to go with. Dieppe is a lovely town and the port is very central. The weekend is well organised and routes include the Avenue Verte, a greenway along an old railway line.
Explore the hidden depths of Dieppe, an enchanting coastal town that blends history, natural beauty, and delectable cuisine. Journey with us through rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and quaint streets. Indulge in mouth-watering culinary delights, and be captivated by the charm of this gem on the French coast. Dieppe is a beautiful town with a long esplanade, a castle, a marina, an amazing Saturday market and an excellent selection of bars and restaurants.
2024 will be the 52nd anniversary of the first Dieppe Raid cycling weekend based on the Dieppe Tour des Trois Vallées event. In 2023, 250 travelled from the UK to France to enjoy a very warm weekend of cycling around Dieppe.
The event is a series of cycle rides organized by Cyclo-Club Dieppois based on the country roads and lanes in and around Dieppe, offering various distances (from 30k to 140k) to suit both families and cycling enthusiasts. A walk is also offered for non-cyclists. The Tour des Trois Vallées is an international event started in 1972 by Neville Chanin, a well-known cyclist who travelled the world by bicycle. It was established in commemoration of the Dieppe Raid in 1942 where horrific losses were suffered by the British and Canadian allies. Neville continued to participate in the event every year until his sad death in 2010.
The Tour des Trois Vallées is a great way to introduce less experienced cyclists to cycling in France and every year we have people who really enjoy the experience. On the other end of the spectrum, many experienced cyclists also return every year. Rides can be ridden on any type of bike and children are welcome.
An Audience with Sir Bradley Wiggins
An Audience with Sir Bradley Wiggins is at The Elgiva, Chesham on Monday 24th February at 19:30.
Sir Bradley Marc Wiggins, is a British former professional road and track racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2001 and 2016.
He began his cycling career on the track, but later made the transition to road cycling. He is the only rider to have won both World and Olympic championships on both the track and the road, as well is winning the Tour De France. He has won the leader’s jersey in each of the three Grand Tours of cycling, and held the world record in team pursuit on multiple occasions.
He won a gold medal at four successive Olympic Games from 2004 to 2016, and held the record as Great Britain’s most decorated Olympian with 8 medals. Join the Tour De France and Olympic winning Medallist as he discusses his fantastic career, what brought him to cycling, and everything in-between!
A limited number of VIP tickets are available, affording the opportunity for a meet and greet with the legendary cyclist and a photograph opportunity before the show

Not cycling? Here is an interesting local family outing
At a recent Coffee Pot, I mentioned the Amersham Fairground Organ Museum and was surprised that people who lived quite near were unaware of it. It is quite a well-kept secret, but the amazing fairground organs there attract visitors from around the world. When music making changed from being mechanical to electronic, Showmen stopped using these big mechanical organs and most were broken up and lost, so this is a rare collection. Be warned that these organs were designed for outdoor use, with no volume control, so they are loud in a confined space! The museum is only open on one Sunday a month so check the dates on the website below.
